Classes for Students Entering Grade 4

SCHEDULING NOTE - When registering online you will pick from a list of classes that are offered each period and then will be able to list alternate classes.  Reminder students may only take 2 art classes and art classes are double period.

ART

Double Periods, Student may only take 2 Art Classes

ART AROUND THE WORLD
A multi-cultural approach to art in various countries. Students will make passports and visit different countries through art. Course may include projects such as Japanese lanterns, Knighthood shields from England, and mosaic tiles from Mexico.

CARTOONING
Use your imagination to become an illustrator. Students will work in different mediums to create and draw cartoon characters.

DRAWING & PAINTING
In this engaging and varied workshop, campers will have the opportunity to make several projects that develop and strengthen basic observational and drawing skills, before moving on to explore various painting styles and media. This includes pencil, colored pencil, ink, pastels, watercolor, and even acrylic paint on canvas! Participants will be able to express their unique creativity and ideas through the visual mediums of drawing and painting.

FUN WITH CLAY
An introduction to clay class, projects will include simple clay projects to be fired and glazed or painted. Class will also include work with modeling clay.

FUN WITH FABRIC, FELT & MORE!
Join us to learn how to design and sew creatures, create colorful weavings, explore basic embroidery, and so much more!

SCULPTURE

Projects may include working with wire, paper, paper mache, plaster and wood to create masterpieces that may include puppets, sculptures and masks.

WEAVING *NEW*
Learn how to weave with different mediums such as paper, straws or yarn.  Make your own loom and create a wall hanging, learn how to circle weave or create small animals.  Lots of cool project in store!

 

MUSIC

CHOIR
For all students who enjoy singing!

GUITAR I
Designed as a 4 week course for students who have never played guitar before. Students will need to provide an appropriately sized guitar and a teacher specified lesson book.

MUSIC GAMES
Music is so much fun! Campers will make the parts needed for various games and activities and use them to learn musical skills in a fun way! This may include instrument building.

MUSICAL ZOO
For students who have never played a band instrument. The goal of this course is to help the student make a more educated choice as to what instrument to start in their regular school program. Instruments and books will be provided. Students will need to provide a #1.5 B Flat Clarinet reed. The instruments to be experienced are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet and either Trombone or Baritone.

PERCUSSION
Designed as a 4-week course on percussion instruments. This is for students who have never played a percussion instrument before. Students will need to provide drumsticks and a practice pad.

PIANO 1
This is designed for students who have never taken private piano lessons. This class takes an elementary approach using electronic keyboards. Students will need their own headphones and MUST BUY a method book after the first class. Headphone adapters will be provided.

RECORDER
Ideal as an introduction to instruments or just for fun! Students will need to provide a soprano recorder by the second class.

BEGINNING STRINGS LESSON
Designed for students with no school lesson experience who wish to start group lessons during the summer.  Students will need their own instrument.  Please indicate the instrument that will be studying when registering (violin, viola, cello, or bass).

UKELELE
Learn how to play this popular Hawaiian instrument that is a member of the guitar family. Campers must supply their own ukulele.

WORLD DRUMMING 
Learn percussion from around the world including Taiko drumming from Japan, Bucket Drumming from Kenya and the USA, and the use of a variety of easy-to-play hand percussion instruments that provide a "hands-on” cross-cultural learning experience.

WORLD OF MUSIC
An exciting course allowing the younger campers to explore various musical activities including rhythmic games, singing, discovery of instruments and more.

DANCE

ADVANCED BALLET/LYRICAL
This class will cover both Ballet and Lyrical forms of dance.  Campers must have 4+ years of private/studio dance experience.  Ballet will focus on the form and technique that is learned from the art of ballet. This dance form is taught using proper terminology, classical music, and traditional dance steps. Students develop grace, poise, rhythm, and the ability to perform with confidence. Lyrical fuses ballet, modern dance, and jazz. It requires excellent technique to perform, as the moves are often difficult and precise. Students are taught to convey the emotion of the music. Intense emotional expression of the face and body are necessary to tell a story through dance.

ADVANCED JAZZ
These high energy class offers a style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation, while focusing on classic jazz technique. Dancers have the opportunity to mix different styles into the choreography incorporating their own expression. The blend of upbeat music and dance makes this art form worthy of study. Campers must have 4+ years of private/studio dance experience.

ADVANCED TAP
This exciting form of dance allows campers to use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and cool beats. The focus is on total body movement, placing emphasis on proper technique while executing the steps. Campers must have 4+ years of private/studio dance experience.

BEGINNER DANCE - **New**
No dance experience necessary. Campers will have the opportunity to learn 2 to 4 different styles of dance.  Two instructors will split the group up so campers can try different styles of dance including tap, ballet, jazz and hip hop.  Campers will get to choice which styles dance they learn.

BEGINNER JAZZ
This high energy class offers a style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation, while focusing on classic jazz technique. Dancers have the opportunity to mix different styles into the choreography incorporating their own expression. The blend of upbeat music and dance makes this art form worthy of study.  Beginner class is good for those with little dance experience or even a few years of studio experience.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE **New**
A style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres.    Dancers strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.  All levels.

COUNTRY LINE DANCING **New**
Have fun learning country line dancing to your favorite country songs, from classics like Cotton Eyed Joe to more modern songs, learn a different dance each day!  All levels.

FOLK DANCE
Dance your way around the world! Have fun in an active class where campers learn the folk dances of various cultures from around the globe. No experience needed!

HIP HOP
Students are taught specific body isolations which help them execute various moves such as breaking, popping, and locking. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential to hip-hop dancing. All levels.

INTERMEDIATE DANCE - **New**
For campers with 2 or more years of dance experience in tap and jazz.  Class will focus on Tap and Jazz technique and form. If campers wish to do only Tap or Jazz they will have the option to rotate into the Beginning Hip Hop for the 2 weeks.

DRAMA

BROADWAY CHOREOGRAPHY
Broadway dance, typically performed in musicals, integrates dancing and drama and is popular around the world.  Learn the style of Broadway greats like Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins while developing your performance technique and facial expression.  Students learn Broadway choreography from a variety of styles of musical theatre. This class performs in the end of Camp Performance.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Give your regards to Broadway as you learn to combine singing, dancing and acting. This class performs in the end of Camp Performance.

YOUNG ACTORS WORKSHOP
This is a basic acting course that includes a general introduction to theatre and acting techniques, giving campers the opportunity to perform in front of their peers. Classes will include theater games as well as class exercises in acting fundamentals such as movement and voice.

RECREATION

YOGA 
This course gives the students a relaxing break from the art and music classes by providing a chance to learn basic yoga poses & postures, breathing and relaxation techniques, yoga games and more.  

FUN & GAMES
Burn some energy playing your favorite games from PE and learn a bunch of new ones.  Class will include cooperative games, traditional sports, and outdoor games.  Class will mainly meet outside, weather permitting.

WORLD GAMES
Have fun and be active while learning sports and games from around the world.  Class will mainly meet outside, weather permitting.
