Classes for Students Entering Grade 4

SCHEDULING NOTE - When registering online you will pick from a list of classes that are offered each period and then will be able to list alternate classes.  Reminder students may only take 2 art classes and art classes are double period.

ART

Double Periods, Student may only take 2 Art Classes

3D ART
Projects may include working with fabric, paper mache and clay to learn how to create simple sculptures.

ART AROUND THE WORLD
A multi-cultural approach to art in various countries. Students will make passports and visit different countries through art. Course may include project such as Japanese lanterns, Knighthood shields from England and mosaic tiles from Mexico.

CARTOONING
Use your imagination to become an illustrator. Students will work in different mediums to create and draw cartoon characters.

DRAWING & PAINTING
In this engaging and varied workshop, youth participants will have the opportunity to make several projects that develop and strengthen basic observational and drawing skills, before moving on to explore various painting styles and media. This includes pencil, colored pencil, ink, pastels, watercolor, and even acrylic paint on canvas! Participants will be able to express their unique creativity and ideas through the visual mediums of drawing and painting.

FUN WITH FABRIC, FELT & MORE!  *NEW*
Join us to learn how to design and sew creatures, create colorful weaving, explore basic embroidery, and so much more!

ORIGAMI ZOO – IT’S UP TO YOU!  *NEW*
How many animals can we make?  We will fold a few other things like boxes to keep the small animals in, and even boats to give them a change of scenery, but mostly it is animals, animals, animals (including dinos)!

SCULPTURE
Projects may include working with wire, paper, paper mache, plaster and wood to create masterpieces which may include puppets, sculptures and masks.

MUSIC

MUSIC GAMES
Students will make the parts needed for various games and activities and use them to learn musical skills in a fun way! This may include instrument building.

MUSICAL ZOO
For students who have never played a band instrument. The goal of this course is to help the student make a more educated choice as to what instrument to start in their regular school program. Instruments and books will be provided. Students will need to provide a #1.5 B Flat Clarinet reed. The instruments to be experienced are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet and either Trombone or Baritone.

PERCUSSION
Designed as a 4 week course on percussion instruments. This is for students who have never played a percussion instrument before. Students will need to provide drumsticks and a practice pad.

PIANO 1
This is designed for students who have never taken private piano lessons. This class takes an elementary approach using electronic keyboards. Students will need their own headphones and MUST BUY a method book after the first class. Headphone adaptors will be provided.

BEGINNING RECORDER
Ideal as an introduction to instruments. Students will need to provide a soprano recorder by the second class.

RECORDER II
Designed for students who have taken recorder during the school year. Students will need to provide a soprano recorder by the second class.

BEGINNING STRINGS LESSON
Designed for students with no school lesson experience but who wish to start group lessons during the summer.  Students will need their own instrument.  Please indicate the instrument that will be studying when registering (violin, viola, cello, or bass).

GUITAR I
Designed as a 4 week course for students who have never played an instrument before. Students will need to provide an appropriately sized guitar and a teacher specified lesson book.

UKELELE

Learn how to play this popular Hawaiian instrument that is a member of the guitar family. Campers must supply their own ukulele.

WORLD DRUMMING
Travel around the musical world learning to play songs from Africa to Japan. This percussion ensemble will work on music including drumming, songs and dances.

WORLD OF MUSIC
An exciting course allowing the younger campers to explore various musical activities including rhythmic games, singing, discovery of instruments and more.

CHOIR
For all students who enjoy singing!

DANCE

DANCE EXPLORATION
In this class campers each week will focus on a different style of dance including Jazz, Ballet, Tap and Hip Hop.  Good for campers who have little dance experience or even those with a few years of studio experience who want to work on all different styles. 

ADVANCED BALLET
The curriculum is based on the form and technique that is learned from the art of ballet. This dance form is taught using proper terminology, classical music and traditional dance steps. Students develop grace, poise, rhythm and the ability to perform with confidence. Campers must have 4+ years of private/studio dance experience.

BEGINNER JAZZ
These high energy classes offer a style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation, while focusing on classic jazz technique. Dancers have the opportunity to mix different styles into the choreography incorporating their own expression. The blend of upbeat music and dance makes this art form worthy of study.  Beginner class is good for those with little dance experience or even a few years of studio experience.

ADVANCED JAZZ

BEGINNER TAP
This exciting form of dance allows dancers to use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The focus is on the total body movement, placing emphasis on proper technique while executing the steps. Beginners start with simple steps and then progress to more intricate patterns.

ADVANCED TAP
This exciting form of dance allows dancers to use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The focus is on the total body movement, placing emphasis on proper technique while executing the steps. Campers must have 3+ years of private/studio dance experience.

HIP HOP
Students are taught specific body isolations which help them execute various moves such as breaking, popping, locking. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential to hip-hop dancing. All levels.

MODERN DANCE
A style of theatrical dance that was created to be different from the formality of ballet. It favors movements where dancers express their feelings.  All levels.

FOLK DANCE
The opportunity to learn the folk dances of various countries. No experience needed!

DRAMA

YOUNG ACTORS WORKSHOP
This is a basic acting course that includes a general introduction to theatre and acting techniques, giving campers the opportunity to perform in front of their peers. Classes will include theater games as well as class exercises in acting fundamentals such as movement and voice.

MUSICAL THEATER
Give your regards to Broadway as you learn to combine singing, dancing and acting.

Puppets, Masks and Performing Objects *NEW*
In this class, students will explore performance through imaginative games utilizing mask work, object theatre, puppetry, and mime.  Storytelling just became more than words!

RECREATION

ULTIMATE FUN & GAMES
You’ll play all your favorite games from PE class and learn a bunch of new ones.  Each day of the week will bring a different activity or game and Friday’s is campers choice!  Have a blast with your camp friends.

FITNESS ZONE
Try out some of the latest fitness crazes. Meditation Mondays, Dance Workout Wednesdays and Full Throttle Fridays will be just a few of the variety of classes campers will experience.

YOGA
This course gives the students a relaxing break from the art and music classes by providing a chance to learn basic yoga poses & postures, breathing and relaxation techniques, yoga games and more.
