The update to the Plan of Conservation and Development is near completion. The Town Plan and Zoning Commission reviewed the draft during a Special Meeting held in Council Chambers on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. The development of the draft plan is one of the final steps in a planning process that consisted of 10 public meetings that yielded recommendations from town boards and commissions, staff, civic groups, business owners and citizens. After the review of the draft plan, the Commission will forward it to Town Council and the Capital Region Council of Governments for review and endorsement. After review and endorsement by the appropriate bodies, the Commission will hold a public hearing for adoption of the Plan. Prior to adoption, the Plan will be available for public inspection on the town website and in the Town Clerk’s Office for a period of at least 35 days. Overview: POCD Update Initiative
The Town Plan and Zoning Commission have initiated the process to update the Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) and will be publishing a revised plan for the years 2018-2028. The POCD document maps out the vision for how the Town of Glastonbury will grow and preserve over the next decade. The document is a unified vision that incorporates the various aspects of planning including, but not limited to:
- Economic development
- Natural resource protection
The POCD Process
The process of updating the POCD is an inclusive one that seeks feedback and input from the public. It's also an opportunity for town departments to review the Plan and offer any substantive comments from their field of expertise that may be relevant to the POCD goals.
The revision process will consist of a series of subcommittee meetings. At each meeting, a different topic from the current plan will be reviewed and proposed revisions will be considered. The first subcommittee meeting was held on February 28th and a schedule of all committee meetings is available here. Copies of the current plan (2007-2017) can be viewed here. We welcome your participation and appreciate any input you may have.
Updates on this initiative will be published to this page as available, and can be quickly accessed via www.glastonbury-ct.gov/POCD.
