Post Date:11/01/2018

The Glastonbury Human Services Department is currently seeking donations for its annual holiday giving programs.

Thanksgiving Program

Grocery store gift cards and non-perishable food items will be distributed to eligible Glastonbury families in mid-November in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday.  As such, the Human Services department is appreciative of monetary donations towards the purchase of grocery gift cards and donations of traditional Thanksgiving nonperishable food items. Suggested nonperishable food items include:

  • stuffing mix
  • gravy
  • canned vegetables
  • instant potatoes
  • cranberry sauce
  • dessert mixes and quick bread mixes.

Donations may be dropped off in person, or mailed to the Riverfront Community Center by Tuesday, November 13th.  In 2017, 448 people were recipients of this program.

Holiday Gift Program

Social Services will also be distributing gifts and store gift cards to eligible families in mid December. This year, there will again be an opportunity to be anonymously matched to wish list items of eligible children.  Donors will receive information about items requested and will be able to shop for these items and return them to the Riverfront Community Center for distribution.  Store gift cards and financial contributions are also very much appreciated and will be used to fill unmatched requests. 236 children received gifts from this program in 2017.  To sign up to be a donor, please click here to visit www.glastonbury-ct.gov/donate and complete the online Holiday Wish List program form. You can also complete a hard copy of the form at the Customer Service Center at Town Hall, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (located at 2155 Main Street).

The Knights of Columbus and Healthcare Ministry at St. Paul's Church are also collecting coats to be distributed to participants of the Holiday Gift Program. New and gently used coats can be dropped off at St. Paul's Church located at 2577 Main Street in Glastonbury.  Questions specifically pertaining to the coat collection should be directed to coatsforkids@kofc-glastonbury.org

For more information on these programs, please contact Theresa Buckson at theresa.buckson@glastonbury-ct.gov or (860) 652-7640. We look forward to working with you to make this holiday season special for Glastonbury residents who are struggling financially and thank you for your generosity!
